ONE

• What is your favorite activity we do in SSB?
  MA: The questions of the day!! It’s always so fun to hear everyone’s opinions, and it almost always sparks up a conversation with the whole group! I love when we get to talk with the whole board!

LH: I love the time when we are playing games and interacting with groups outside of just our table. Last year we would play the game “imposter” with many of the tables around the room and it was so fun!

ER: My favorite activity we do in SSB is planning different fundraisers. I love getting to choose a meaningful cause together and then collaborate on different ideas to turn it into a fundraiser. Since SSB is so student run, it’s especially rewarding to see something we planned completely ourselves come together and know that it’s making a real impact. 

TWO

• Why did you want to join SSB or run for president?

MA:  I wanted to join SSB because I absolutely loved the idea of a class period club because I am an athlete, and I wanted to run for President because I really found My passion for service during my time on SSB, and I wanted to give back to the community that has gone me so much fulfillment and life long friendships!!

LH: I think SSB is so unique in the way that we are able to help our community in such a hands-on way. I feel like a lot of the other organizations open to new trier students are fundraising-based and while that’s great, I love that we are able to go out into our environment and see the impact we are able to make with SSB. That is why I joined the board and why I joined the mission in a bigger way when I ran for president!

ER: I originally wanted to join SSB because it seemed like a great way to meet new people while giving back to the community, and I wanted to get involved in a large New Trier club. After being on the board for two years, I decided to run for president because I had seen how special the organization is and wanted to take a bigger role in something I cared so much about. I especially love the connections SSB creates, both within our board and with the people and organizations we serve.   

THREE

• What club are you a co-head of, and what is your favorite part about going to your club every week?
  
  MA:  I have been co-head of Onward House and FORA, and my favorite parts about going are getting to see the kids I had bonded with over time, and growing closer to them through tutoring!
  
  LH: Last year, I was the co-head of McGaw YMCA. We helped out at an afterschool program in Evanston during their STEAM class. My favorite part was getting to know the kids seeing them week after week. It was so cool forming such strong relationships!

ER: I am one of the co-heads of Madonna Mission, where we tutor refugee students in Rogers Park every Tuesday. My favorite part is getting to see the students’ progress throughout the year. I might work with a student early on in the year and then tutor them again a few weeks later and already notice how much they’ve improved. I also love seeing how excited the kids are when we arrive each week, it truly makes the experience rewarding!

FOUR

• What is a fun fact about you that no one knows?
  
  MA:  If I had a dream vacation, it would be to visit Salzburg, Austria where the movie The Sound of Music was filmed!
  
  LH: I am a fourth generation New Trier Student in my family!

ER: My favorite food is pasta!
